Superhviezda Floridy Panthers Matthew Tkachuk tvrdí, že sa úplne zotavil zo zlomeniny hrudnej kosti, ktorú utrpel počas júnového finále Stanleyho pohára.
,,Cítim sa výborne. Mal som celé leto na to, aby som sa pripravil. Určite som sa v niektorých veciach zlepšil. Zranenie mi umožnilo zapracovať na niektorých častiach fyzickej a kondičnej prípravy, ktorá je momentálne v najlepšej možnej forme, a práve som sa zlepšil v niektorých silových prvkoch, čo bolo mojím cieľom.“
Povedal Tkachuk.
Tkachuk sa zranil v treťom zápase finálovej série, keď ho trafil útočník Vegas Golden Knights Keegan Kolesar. Tkachuk neskôr v zápase skóroval a zranenie si pretrpel aj v štvrtom zápase. Do piateho zápasu už Tkachuk nezasiahol a po víťazstve 9:3 sa Vegas Golden Knights tešili z historicky prvého Stanleyho pohára.
Finalista Hartovej trofeje po skončení série prezradil, že jeho brat Brady mu musel pomôcť obliecť sa a priviesť ho na štadión na štvrtý zápas. Starší Tkachuk povedal, že neľutuje, že sa snažil vydržať v snahe získať majstrovský titul, a je si vedomý akýchkoľvek dlhodobých následkov zranenia.
Je to už niečo vyše roka, čo Calgary Flames poslali Matthewa Tkachuka do Floridy Panthers za balík, ktorý obsahoval Jonathana Huberdeaua a MacKenzieho Weegara. V tom čase sa táto výmena zväčša považovala za výhru Floridy, keďže sa Flames rozpadli. A po tejto sezóne sa dá len súhlasiť. Panthers sa prebojovali do play-off a potom do finále Stanleyho pohára.
Tkachuk vo svojej premiérovej sezóne v drese Panthers skončil na šiestom mieste v NHL so 109 bodmi (40 gólov, 69 asistencií) v 79 zápasoch. S 24 bodmi (11 gólov a 13 asistencií) v 20 zápasoch bol lídrom Panthers a tretím najlepším strelcom play-off v NHL.
Bol vyhlásený za MVP Zápasu hviezd NHL, bol finalistom Hartovej trofeje a zaznamenal štvrtý najvyšší počet bodov v prvej sezóne v tíme (vrátane play-off) v histórii NHL.
„Panteri“ budú chcieť zopakovať cestu do finále Stanleyho pohára. Na začiatku tréningového kempu nebudú mať k dispozícii obrancov Aarona Ekblada a Brandona Montoura, každý z nich sa zotavuje z operácie ramena.
