Začalo sa to už v minulej sezóne, keď Flyers prestali bojovať o účasť v play-off o Stanleyho pohár, a pokračovalo to po odchode útočníkov Kevina Hayesa a Jamesa van Riemsdyka a obrancov Ivana Provorova a Tonyho DeAngela. Aj keď sa to zdá že je to nemožné, Flyers čaká naozaj zaujímavá budúcnosť na čele ktorej bude aj Američan Cutter Gauthier.
Gauthier sa narodil vo Švédsku, keď jeho otec Sean Gauthier hrával v Allsvenskan, druhej najvyššej profesionálnej lige v krajine, ale vyrastal v Arizone, kde hral do svojich 10-tich rokov. Vtedy sa presťahoval do Michiganu, aby našiel vyššiu súťaž, a v roku 2020 získal miesto v rozvojovom programe národného tímu USA Hockey. Cuttera Gauthiera si Flyers vybrali v drafte NHL v roku 2022 z celkového 5. miesta.
Philadelphia Flyers práve prechádza prestavbou a jedným z hlavných hráčov v ich príprave je center Cutter Gauthier. Bol lídrom Boston College v počte bodov, keď v 32 zápasoch zaznamenal 37 bodov. Vďaka skvelej kombinácii veľkosti, rýchlosti a streleckých schopností je Gauthier zbraňou už teraz a svoju hru stále rozvíja.
V lete sa Gauthier zúčastnil na letnom tréningovom kempe USA Hockey’s World Junior Summer Showcase, kde Američania hostili v Michigane národné tímy U20 zo Švédska a Fínska. Gauthier, ktorý bol kľúčovou súčasťou bronzového tímu USA na majstrovstvách sveta juniorov 2023 v Halifaxe.
Tínedžer však získal aj neuveriteľné skúsenosti, keď ho pozvali na majstrovstvá sveta mužov vo Fínsku a Lotyšsku, kde Američania prehrali boj o bronz v predĺžení s Lotyšmi.
Hoci Gauthier bude v tejto sezóne opäť hrať za Boston College, šanca otestovať si svoje schopnosti proti profesionálom bola dobrou lekciou a v desiatich zápasoch si vyslúžil sedem gólov a deväť bodov, čo ho zaradilo medzi najlepších strelcov tímu USA a aj celého šampionátu.
Gauthier nazbieral 10 bodov v siedmich zápasoch na minuloročných juniorských majstrovstvách sveta a práve v tých nasledujúcich vo Göteborgu, kde je tím USA favoritom na zisk zlatej medaily, bude opäť patriť k najsledovanejším hráčom Američanov.
