Podľa viacerých zdrojov sa kanadský tréner Mike Babcock vracia k úlohe trénera v NHL. Od budúcej sezóny by sa mal stať trénerom Columbusu Blue Jackets.
Dôležitým novinárom bol pri tejto aktualite najmä Pierre LeBrun, ktorý pôsobí v uznávanej americkej televízii TSN. Aj keď Columbus zatiaľ Babcocka neoznámil oficiálne, podľa LeBruna sa obidve strany dohodli a zmluvu by mali spečatiť po sezóne, konkrétne niekedy v júli.
Blue Jackets v tejto sezóne NHL skončili na neuspokojivom predposlednom mieste, a tak je výmena trénera na mieste.
Otázkam na tému okolo Babcocka čelil aj generálny manažér klubu Jarmo Kekäläinen: “K otázkam tohto typu sa vyjadrím keď príde správny čas. Momentálne vám k tomu nemôžem povedať viac.“
Mike Babcock v minulosti pôsobil vo viacerých tímoch. Jeho posledný angažmán v organizácii Toronta Maple Leafs nedopadol najlepšie, keďže v roku 2019 dostal výpoveď po neuspokojivých výkonoch a taktiež kvôli údajnému vytváraniu zlej atmosféry v šatni.
Ako tréner je však Babcock členom Triple Gold Clubu vďaka zisku zlata na MS aj ZOH s Kanadou a zisku Stanleyho pohára s Detroitom Red Wings.
