HC Topoľčany začali predstavovanie tímu pomerne opatrne, mimo zotrvania brankára Michala Vojvodu, českého beka Stanislava Došeka a útočníkov Patrika Bečku, Edmunda Piačku a Henricha Ručkaya vieme len o odchodoch. Tradičný klub, ktorého založenie siaha až do roku 1932 sa rozlúčil napríklad s Martinom Hřebíčkom (HK Spartak Dubnica), či útočným objavom Adamom Stránkským, ktorý opäť okúsi Tipos Extraligu v drese Banskej Bystrice.
Jedno nové meno avšak už predsa len predstavili, nie je to však akvizícia na ľad, ale na striedačku. Topoľčany zlanárili známeho trénera, ktorý má za sebou angažmány v Nitre, Bratislave, Trenčíne, Dubnici, či v Poprade, kde sa dostal do povedomia fanúšikom o čosi viac. Následne sa vrátil späť do Bratislavy, už však nie ako asistent, ale ako hlavný tréner. Nasledovala anabáza vo Vsetíne, v ktorom vydržal necelé tri sezóny.
Naposledy viedol Michalovce, kde nahradil Toma Coolena. Bystrejším fanúšikom je už tak jasné, že po novom celok v Tipos SHL povedie skúsený lodivod, Roman Stantien. Rodák z Kyjova za svoju bohatú trénerskú kariéru získal zatiaľ len jeden titul, v sezóne 2011/12, vtedy ešte ako asistent Slovana Bratislava. Oveľa bohatšiu kariéru zatiaľ zaznamenal ako hráč, zahral si na olympiáde za Slovensko, stihol dve Majstrovstvá sveta a 6 majtrovských titulov v Česku, či dva tituly v Slovenskej najvyššej súťaži.
