Tréner Washingtonu Spencer Carbery označil Ovečkinovu absenciu za významnú stratu pre tím. „Jeho prítomnosť na ľade nám bude veľmi chýbať. Bol vo vynikajúcej forme, strelil päť gólov v posledných dvoch zápasoch a mal sezónu rozbehnutú tak, že mohol bojovať o trofej pre najlepšieho strelca,“ uviedol Carbery.
Washington už bez svojho kapitána odohral prvý zápas, keď v piatok prehral s Coloradom Avalanche 1:2. Pre tím to znamená veľkú výzvu, keďže bol nielen kľúčovým strelcom, ale aj lídrom na ľade. Napriek nepríjemnému zraneniu fanúšikovia veria, že sa vráti silnejší. „Je to smola, ale Alex je nezlomný bojovník. Veríme, že opäť začne lietať na ľade a čoskoro bude pokračovať vo svojej ceste za rekordom,“ dodal Wilson.
