Hokejisté pražské Sparty se v semifinále hokejové ligy mistrů setkali v prvním zápase doma s Färjestadem, v jehož službách nastupují také Marián Studenič a ex-sparťan Tomášek. Ten však z důvodu zranění v zápase chyběl.
První gól padl již v čase 1:39, kdy Lodin tečoval za záda sparťanského gólmana Josefa Kořenáře Nygrenovu střelu od modré. Vyrovnání přišlo o čtyři a půl minuty později. Jani Lajunen v přesilové hře z dorážky poslal puk za záda Maxima Legaceho, který si ho poté nešťastně srazil betonem za brankovou čáru. Färjestad ještě zkusil trenérskou výzvu na postavení hráče v brankovišti, nicméně duo hlavních sudích v podání Fina Brandera a Rakušana Sternata bez dlouhého zkoumání tento tah zavrhlo. Färjestad se však do vedení vrátil v čase 16:18, kdy sparťanská obrana nechala před brankou volného Oskara Steena, který potvrdil svou formu Top scorera a po přihrávce zpoza branky prostřelil Kořenáře. Slovenský útočník Marian Studenič na této trefě zapsal asistenci.
Druhá třetina se dlouho obešla bez vážných šancí, až v čase 25:58 přečíslil soupeř obranu Sparty a Alexander Ljungkrantz po přihrávce Lucase Forsella trefil puk mimo dosah Kořenáře a zvýšil na 3:1. V podobné situaci se o dvě minuty později ocitl sám Forsell, tentokrát však sparťanský brankář dokázal jeho střelu vyrazit. Ve 28. minutě měli Pražané možnost snížit, dvouminutovou přesilovku však nevyužili. Do konce třetiny si pak hokejisté Sparty vypracovali ještě několik slibných šancí. Ty se však setkaly pouze se solidně chytajícím Legacem. I přes střeleckou převahu 13:10 tak nakonec domácí odcházeli do kabiny s dvou gólovým mankem.
Třetí dějství otevřel trefou po minutě a čtyřech vteřinách Marian Studenič, který na modré čáře využil chyby Jakuba Krejčíka a střelou na bližší tyč zvýšil na 4:1. Ve 46. minutě ujel do samostatného úniku Lajunen, který však puk přes beton Legaceho dostat nedokázal. Za následnou potyčku po odpískání pak v houstnoucí atmosféře zamířili na trestnou lavici sparťanský Forman s Westfältem. Pokud domácí fanoušci doufali ve snížení, museli být zklamáni. Nejprve v 50. minutě překonal opět Oskar Steen za asistence Studeniče sparťanského Kořenáře, poté sice v čase 50:35 snížil na 2:5 Miroslav Forman, avšak po 11 sekundách vrátil hostům čtyřbrankové vedení Joel Nyström. Tato trefa znamenala třetí asistenci Mariana Studeniče v zápase.
Sparta stejně jako v semifinále s Vaxjo prohrála v úvodním domácím zápase a v odvetě v Karlstadu se tak pokusí o zdánlivě nemožné, tedy porazit soupeře na domácím ledě minimálně o 5 gólů. Druhý zápas mezi Spartou a Färjestadem se odehraje v Löfbergs areně přesně za týden, 21. ledna od 19:00 hodin.
