Všetkým fanúšikom najprestížnejšej hokejovej ligy je známa rivalita medzi Washingtonom Capitals a Pittsburghom Penguins, ktorá príchodom Ovechkina a Crosbyho nabrala nový rozmer. Po novom však kapitána Penguins frustruje slovenský obranca.
Nedávno sa nechal Martin Fehérváry počuť v rozhovore pre The Hockey News o tom, že si myslí, že práve on je vo vzájomných zápasoch prekážka pre kanadského centra. Podľa jeho slov sa v každom z týchto zápasov vyskytne medzi nimi nejaký konflikt.

Moment, ktorý to celé odštartoval, sa stal 14. novembra 2021, kedy Washington vyhral nad Pittsburghom v pomere 6:1. Crosby vtedy v tretej tretine z frustrácie hodil slovenského obrancu o mantinel. Rozhodcovia zákrok neodpískali a taktiež sa ním nezaoberala ani disciplinárna komisia. Fehérváry si z toho ťažkú hlavu nerobí: „Je mi to celkom jedno.“
Ďalším momentom bol napríklad aj zápas, ktorý sa odohral túto sezónu, konkrétne 9. novembra. Vtedy si obaja hráči viditeľne vymieňali krosčeky a rôzne súboje.
Aj keď to môže byť pre 23-ročného Fehérváryho zaujímavá skúsenosť, pomohla mu jednoznačne vytvoriť si meno a rešpekt v NHL. V Capitals patrí k hráčom, ktorí sú lídrami v rozdávaní hitov. Okrem Crosbyho vďaka tomu narobil problémy nejednej hviezde zámorskej ligy.
