Slovensko si tretíkrát po sebe zahrá o medaile na Majstrovstvách sveta do 18 rokov. Vo štvrťfinálovom súboji naši hráči zdolali Nemecko tesne 3:2 a v ďalšom kole ich čaká azda najťažší súper na turnaji – favorizovaná Kanada. Druhú semifinálovú dvojicu tvoria domáce USA a Švédsko.
Vo štvrťfinále proti Nemecku predviedli zverenci Martina Dendisa suverénny výkon. Od začiatku určovali tempo zápasu a v druhej tretine sa dočkali zaslúženého gólu, o ktorý sa postaral Ján Chovan. Neskôr sa k nemu pridali Lukáš Tomka a Luka Radivojevič. Nemecký tím si počas väčšiny zápasu nedokázal vytvoriť vážnejšie gólové príležitosti. Menší zvrat nastal až v závere, keď Nemci dvomi gólmi zdramatizovali duel. Napriek tomu si slovenskí mladíci udržali tesné vedenie a po víťazstve 3:2 sa už tretíkrát po sebe prebojovali medzi najlepšiu štvorku turnaja. Na predchádzajúcich šampionátoch vo Švajčiarsku a Fínsku obsadili zhodne štvrté miesto.
„Odviedli sme dobrú prácu počas celého zápasu,“ povedal kapitán Luka Radivojevič. „Zo začiatku sme mali trochu problém skórovať, ale potom sme to zlomili a bolo to úžasné.“
Dnes o 22:00 čaká našich mladíkov mimoriadne náročná výzva – semifinálová odveta proti silnej Kanade. V základnej skupine podľahli „javorovým listom“ vysoko 2:9, no zápas priniesol aj niekoľko pozitívnych momentov. Slováci dokázali držať krok najmä v úvode stretnutia, kým ich nezlomili vylúčenia, ktoré Kanaďania nekompromisne trestali. Vzájomné skóre je 0:13 v prospech Kanady, čo z nej robí jasného favorita duelu. Napriek tomu slovenskí juniori nemajú čo stratiť, čo im môže rozhodne pomôcť v prípadnom boji o bronz.
V druhom semifinále sa proti sebe postavia domáce Spojené štáty a ambiciózne Švédsko. Oba tímy sa stretli už v základnej skupine, kde Američania zvíťazili 6:3. Švédi však odvtedy ukázali, že sa dokážu poučiť z chýb a budú odhodlaní Američanom prehru oplatiť. Očakáva sa vyrovnaný a vysoko kvalitný duel, ktorý rozhodne o tom, kto si zahrá o titul majstra sveta.
