Hokejisti Floridy Panthers hrali tretí zápas finále Stanley Cupu podľa vlastných nôt od úvodného buly až po záverečnú sirénu. Výsledkom bola dominantná výhra 6:1 nad Edmonton Oilers a vedenie 2:1 v sérii.
Domáci panteri sa ujali vedenia už po 56 sekundách hry, keď Brad Marchand zužitkoval chybu domácich pri rozohrávke. Pre Marchanda to bol tretí gól vo finálovej sérii a vo veku 37 rokov sa stal najstarším hráčom v histórii, ktorý skóroval v každom z úvodných troch zápasov finále Stanley Cupu. Domáci pokračovali v tlaku a ešte v prvej tretine skóroval aj Carter Verhaeghe, čím si vybudovali komfortný trojgólový náskok.
Edmonton sa síce v druhej tretine na chvíľu nadýchol, keď Corey Perry využil presilovku a znížil na 1:2, no to bolo zo strany kanadského tímu všetko. Florida odpovedala ďalšími štyrmi gólmi – presadili sa Sam Reinhart, Sam Bennett, Aaron Ekblad a Evan Rodrigues. Zápas sa tak zmenil na jednostrannú exhibíciu domácšho tímu.
Bennett strelil už svoj 14. gól v play-off, čím vedie tabuľku strelcov pred Leonom Draisaitlom (10) z Edmontonu. V útoku Panthers excelovali viacerí hráči, no rovnako dominantný bol aj brankár Sergej Bobrovsky. Ten predviedol ďalší výborný výkon, keď zneškodnil 32 z 33 striel Oilers.
Naopak, najväčšie opory domácich Connor McDavid a Draisaitl sa bodovo nepresadili. McDavid vystrelil na bránu iba dvakrát, Draisaitl ani raz. Olejári navyše v zápase stratili nervy, keď ponúkli Floride až 11 presilových hier. Florida z nich využila tri. V zápase bolo spolu udelených 35 trestov v celkovom trvaní 140 minút pre obe mužstvá, z toho viac ako polovicu nazbierali hráči Oilers len v tretej tretine.
Hlavný tréner Floridy Paul Maurice sa stal len tretím kormidelníkom v histórii NHL, ktorý dosiahol 1 000 víťazstiev v základnej časti a play-off. Päťdesiatosemročný Maurice sa pripája k exkluzívnej spoločnosti, keďže hranicu 1 000 víťazstiev dosiahli už len tréner Siene slávy Scotty Bowman (1 467) a hlavný tréner Anaheim Ducks Joel Quenneville (1 090).
Florida potvrdila skvelú formu a efektivitu v ofenzíve. Štvrtý zápas série sa odohrá v noci zo stredy na štvrtok, opäť v Amerant Bank Arene. Panteri majú pred sebou šancu ísť do vedenia 3:1 – a ak uspejú, môžu sa blížiť k zisku druhého Stanleyho pohára v rade.
