Vedenie Pittsburghu Penguins oznámilo, že zásielka s figúrkami ikony klubu bola po príchode do Kalifornie ukradnutá.
Tím mal v úmysle rozdávať ich fanúšikom počas štvrtkového domáceho zápasu proti San José Sharks. Namiesto toho klub poskytne fanúšikom poukaz, ktorý im umožní vyzdvihnúť si predmet neskôr. Prezident Penguins pre obchodné operácie Kevin Acklin vo vyhlásení uviedol, že klub kontaktoval štátne a federálne orgány, aby incident prešetrili.
,,Hoci tento nešťastný incident sa týka legendy Jaromíra Jágra, ktorý bude na (zápase) prítomný ako náš hosť, tešíme sa na vyriešenie tejto krádeže a doručenie cenných Jágrových figúrok do ich právoplatných domovov spolu s našimi fanúšikmi.“
Uviedol Acklin.
Tím minulý mesiac počas predzápasovej ceremónie slávnostne vyradil Jágrovo číslo 68. Päťdesiatdvaročný Jágr, druhý najproduktívnejší hráč NHL všetkých čias, zostáva aktívnym hráčom tímu Rytíři Kladno, ktorý vlastní v rodnej Českej republike.
V Pittsburghu sa nepríjemná udalosť nedávno stala predmetom pozornosti, a to najmä v súvislosti s ich hlavným rivalom, tímom Philadelphia Flyers. Ich maskot Gritty sa zdalo, že si urobil zábavu z nedávnej krádeže miniatúrnych figurín Jágra, keď na svojom sociálnom mediálnom profile zverejnil vtipný obrázok z populárnej série Hry o tróny, kde sa vtipkuje: „Chcem, aby vedela, že som to bola ja.“
