Šimon Nemec, jeden z najväčších talentov slovenského hokeja a draftová dvojka roku 2022, si v noci z piatka na sobotu odbil debut v NHL. V dueli proti San José Sharks nastúpil hneď v prvej obrannej dvojici a pripísal si dve asistencie, avšak Devils nakoniec zápas prehrali 3:6.
Zápas mal pre slovenského obrancu trpký úvod. Hneď pri jeho prvom striedaní sa Devils dostali do dobrej šance po Nemcovej strele, využit ju však nedokázali a hneď vzápätí inkasovali prvý gól v zápase.
Šimon dostal priestor aj na presilovke a zapís do štatistík sa mu podaril už v prvej presilovke zápasu, keď si pri vyrovnávajúcom góle na 1:1 pripísal svoju prvú asistenciu a zároveň prvý bod v NHL.
Slovenskému obráncovi sa však jeden kanadský bod málil a v zápase sa mu podarilo bodovať ešte raz. V záverečnej tretine, približne 7 minút pred koncom zápasu, si pripísal ešte jednu asistenciu pri góle Ondřeja Paláta. Devils týmto gólom znížili na 3:4.
Dokopy slovenský reprezentant odohral 22 minút a 38 sekúnd, trikrát vystrelil na bránku a pripísal si jeden hit a dva mínusové body. Stal sa tak druhým najvyťažovanejším Slovákom v tejto sezóne, viac minút odohral len Erik Černák, konkrétne 23 minút a 16 sekúnd.
Hráči Devils celkovo prestrieľali svojho súpera pomerom 47:18, no hráči San José boli efektívnejší a nakoniec zvíťazili výsledkom 3:6.
„Na ľade som sa cítil dobre, ale bola to pre nás ťažká prehra. Bolo to šialené. Mal som pocity ako cez normálny deň. Možno sa budem cítiť inak zajtra alebo na ďalší deň. Na ľade som sa cítil dobre a snažil som sa užiť tento moment,“

Ohrozí Nemcov debut v NHL jeho účasť na majstrovstvách sveta juniorov?
Šimon dostal priestor v prvom obrannom páre v dôsledku absencií v kádre „Diablov“. Dvojzápasovú suspendáciu si odpykáva obranca Brendan Smith a po operácií ľavého prsného svalu absentuje Dougie Hamilton. Obaja hráči sa v tejto sezóne dostali do prvej obrannej dvojice a pri druhom menovanom nie je známe, kedy sa vráti na ľad.
„Zmeníme veľa vecí, pretože trochu obmieňame naše presilovké formácie. S neprítomnosťou Douga sa samozrejme zmenia aj obranné dvojice,“
povedal Lindy Ruff, tréner Devils, pre oficiálnu webstránku NHL.
Slovenský supertalent vyjadril záujem o reprezentovanie Slovenska na blížiacich sa majstrovstvách sveta juniorov, ak si však udrží podobné výkony aj v následujúcich zápasoch NHL, tak ho vedenie Devils pravdepodobne na turnaj nepustí. Po Slafkovskom, pri ktorom je účasť na turnaji taktiež veľmi nepravdepodobná, by tak Slovensko prišlo o ďalšieho kľučového hráča.
