Víťazom slovenského pohára v tejto sezóne sa stali žilinské vlky. Vo finále zdolali Považskú Bystricu 4:3 po nájazdoch. Z triumfu v tejto súťaži sa klub teší po druhýkrát v jej trojročnej histórii.
Skupinovou fázou, ktorá sa hrala v polovici augusta, resp. polovici septembra, prešli so ziskom plných deviatich bodov. V prvom zápase si poradili s Modrými krídlami 2:1, v druhom zdemolovali Skalicu 7:3 a na záver zaknihovali triumf nad Dubnicou 4:1. Všetky zápasy hrali „vlci“ vonku. Najproduktívnejšími hráčmi v klube boli Igor Safaraleyev (3+2), Bruno Mráz (3+1) a Martin Belluš s Patrikom Koyšom (0+3).
V sobotnom semifinále privítali doma Prešov. Po bezgólovej prvej polovici zápasu sa trafil Juraj Bezúch, ktorého zásah sa ukázal ako víťazný. V závere stretnutia ešte upravil stav Šimon Beták.
Včerajšie finále, opäť hrané v Žiline, prinieslo omnoho viac gólov. Ešte v prvej tretine poslal hostí do vedenia Richard Jakubec, no počas necelých dvoch minút v druhej tretine bol stav otočený. „Pantery“ sa však nevzdali a vrátili sa späť do vedenia. Necelé tri minutý pred koncom základnej hracej doby vyrovnal Lukáš Paukovček. Predĺženie rozhodol v čase 7:39 Peter Galamboš.
