Není tajemstvím, že se Vancouver Canucks dlouhodobě potýkali s neshodami mezi hráči. Napjatá atmosféra mezi J.T. Millerem a Eliasem Petterssonem byla široce diskutována, a nakonec vyústila v rázné řešení. Asistent kapitána Quinna Hughese mění působiště a stává se hráčem New York Rangers. Opačným směrem putuje také český útočník Filip Chytil.
Již v závěru minulého roku se v hokejových médiích objevily zprávy o komplikovaném vztahu mezi elitními útočníky Canucks. I přes četné rozhovory a upřímné snahy o nápravu situace byl radikální zásah nevyhnutelný.
„Už dlouho jsem doufal, že se to nějak vyřeší. Všichni na tom pracovali, včetně obou hráčů. Ale vždycky se to na chvíli uklidní a pak se to zase vrátí. Vypadá to, že tu žádné dobré řešení není,“
konstatoval prezident klubu Jim Rutherford.
Jednání, probíhající během celého ledna, dlouho nevedla ke zdárnému cíli. Jisté komplikace způsobil i trade Fina Mikka Rantanena do Caroliny, protože právě tam mohl jeden ze zmiňovaných forvardů Vancouveru zamířit. Rozuzlení se tedy muselo hledat o kus dál, a podařilo se. Zájem projevili Rangers, a dohoda byla na světě.
Zatímco kádr trenéra Ricka Toccheta se kromě Millera, který se vzdal své smluvní klauzule o nevyměnitelnosti a ochotně svolil k návratu do týmu, jímž byl před čtrnácti lety draftován v prvním kole, loučí i s mladými obránci Erikem Brännströmem a Jacksonem Dorringtonem, New York Rangers poslali do Kanady Victora Manciniho ,chráněnou volbu v prvním kole letošního draftu, a rodáka z Kroměříže, útočníka Filipa Chytila, který v jejich dresu přes dlouhodobé zdravotní komplikace stihl odehrát necelé čtyři stovky utkání, během nichž si na konto připsal sto šedesát čtyři kanadských bodů. Další bude mít šanci přidat po boku svého nového spoluhráče, krajana Filipa Hronka.
To, zda se jednatřicetiletý forvard původem z Ohia ve výstroji New Yorku ukáže již během dnešního duelu s Bostonem, zatím nebylo uvedeno. Jisté však je, že zde bude, vzhledem ke kolísavým výsledkům a nelichotivé pozici v tabulce, přivítán s otevřenou náručí.
Otázkou též zůstává, zda tento čin skutečně Vancouveru dopomůže na cestě za tolik vytouženým Stanley Cupem. Rušivý element v podobě neshod byl zdárně eliminován a cesta na vrchol, avizovaná Rutherfordem, může konečně začít.
