Okrem rekordu staršieho z bratov Hughesovcov bol k videniu aj debut mladšieho Hughesa.
Luke Hughes bol draftovaný ako štvorka draftu v roku 2021. Nie je to tak dávno, čo tento mladý obranca podpísal s Devils nováčikovskú zmluvu. Netrvalo dlho a podarilo sa mu prežiť debut v najprestížnejšej hokejovej súťaži.
New Jersey v tomto zápase vyhralo nad Buffalom Sabres 6:2. Aj napriek tomu, že mal Luke status debutanta, strávil na ľade necelých 12 minút. Za ten čas získal jeden mínusový bod, dva hity a jeden blok. Na bránu nevystrelil ani raz.
S adaptáciou do NHL mu s určitosťou pomohol aj fakt, že v tíme Devils je lídrom jeho brat Jack.
Bol to splnený sen. Bolo to veľmi špeciálne. Počuť a vidieť fanúšikov, ako fandia, bolo nezabudnuteľné. Taktiež bolo super mať so sebou na ľade aj Jacka. Bolo to super.
Luke Hughes po debute v NHL
Hughes pred podpisom pôsobil v NCAA v tíme Michiganskej univerzity, kde nazbieral v 39 zápasoch 10 gólov a 38 asistencií. Za zmienku určite stojí aj jeho pôsobenie na poslednom juniorskom šampionáte. Ako kapitán USA doviedol svoj tím k zisku bronzových medajlí. Odohral na ňom 7 zápasov, nazbieral 4 góly a pridal aj jednu asistenciu.
