Tím Vegas Golden Knights pred sezónou 2024/2025 privítal novú posilu. Pozvánku na skúšku dostal nedraftovaný obranca Viliam Kmec.
Dvadsaťročný Slovák sa môže pochváliť bohatými skúsenosťami z medzinárodných turnajov. Zúčastnil sa na troch majstrovstvách sveta do 20 rokov a posledné tri sezóny strávil v kanadskej juniorskej súťaži Western Hockey League, kde obliekal dres Prince George Cougars. V sezóne 2023/2024 odohral 58 zápasov a zaznamenal 34 bodov (9 gólov a 25 asistencií).
Kmec dostal šancu predviesť sa na turnaji 2024 Rookie Faceoff v Los Angeles, kde Vegas nastúpilo proti tímom Los Angeles Kings, Seattle Kraken a Utah Grizzlies. V prvom zápase sa Kmec bodovo nepresadil, no v dueli proti Seattlu Kraken prispel k víťazstvu „zlatých rytierov“ 5:3 gólom v 25. minúte, keď zvyšoval na 3:0.
„Snažím sa hrať svoju hru, byť sebavedomý a nič neuponáhľať pri aktivite v útočnom pásme. Myslím si, že dokážem byť užitočný v defenzíve aj v ofenzíve, takže sa snažím hrať rozumne a nepreceňovať svoje možnosti,“ uviedol Kmec po svojom výkone.
