Anaheim Ducks podpísali sedemročnú zmluvu s Troyom Terrym v hodnote 49 miliónov dolárov. Terry bol v posledných dvoch sezónach jedným z najkonzistentnejších hráčov Ducks. Je kľúčovým členom jadra tímu.
V minulej sezóne skončil Terry so 65 bodmi (23 gólov a 38 asistencií) v 70 zápasoch na druhom mieste v bodovaní tímu a druhýkrát za sebou sa zúčastnil Zápasu hviezd.
Odkedy Ducks v roku 2015 draftovali Terryho z celkového 148. miesta, rodák z Denveru zaznamenal v 274 zápasoch 75 gólov a 101 asistencií. V sezóne 2021/2022 však Terry prerazil ako pravé krídlo prvej formácie so 67 bodmi, čo predstavuje priemer 0,89 bodu na zápas, ktorý viac ako zdvojnásobil jeho 0,42 bodu na zápas v sezóne 2020/2021.
Terry a 22-ročný center Trevor Zegras sú lídrami útoku Anaheimu, pričom prvý menovaný strávil v uplynulej sezóne na ľade v priemere 19:22 min. na zápas. Obaja hráči majú tiež ešte roky do svojho očakávaného vrcholu. Ducks presvedčili Terryho, aby sa zapojil do toho, čo klub buduje, a bude mať zmluvu počas celého svojho najlepšieho veku, až do sezóny 2029/2030.
Predĺženie Terryho zmluvy nasleduje po sérii ďalších nedávnych arbitrážnych konaní, v ktorých rôzni hráči v lige dostali zmluvy s rôznymi podmienkami. Nedávno sa na ročnej zmluve na 3,475 milióna dolárov dohodol aj brankár Bostonu Bruins Jeremy Swayman.
Terry vstupuje do sezóny 2023/2024 s veľkými očakávaniami, pretože chce zaznamenať prvú sezónu s viac ako 70 bodmi v kariére. Bude lídrom útoku po boku Alexa Killorna a Trevora Zegrasa.
Ducks majú po podpise zmluvy s Terrym stále k dispozícii 20,2 milióna dolárov. Veľkú časť z týchto peňazí však pravdepodobne budú musieť použiť na predĺženie zmluvy so Zegrasom, ktorý je obmedzeným voľným hráčom.
Anaheim v sezóne 2022/2023 zaznamenal neúspešnú sezónu, ktorú ukončili s bilanciou 23-47-12. V sezóne 2023/2024 sa chce tím odraziť od dna.
Ducks sa však od sezóny 2017/2018 nedostali do play-off a v náročnej Pacifickej divízii, ktorej vládnu Vegas Golden Knights a Edmonton Oilers, bude pre klub ťažké sa tam vrátiť.
