Jednotka posledného draftu absolvovala takmer trojmesačnú liečbu zraneného kolena.
V pondelok vykorčuľoval Slafkovský na prvý tréning po zranení. Po tréningu nasledovali aj rozhovory pre médiá. V nich priznal, že na majstrovstvách sveta by podľa neho v momentálnom stave nebol posilou pre slovenskú reprezentáciu. Taktiež povedal, že si počas absencie napozeral videá s hrou iných elitných hráčov NHL.
Pravdou však ostáva, že jeho účasť na majstrovstvách sveta vylúčil už na začiatku marca aj generálny manažér Canadiens Kent Hughes.
Na prvom tréningu bolo zjavné, že má za sebou trojmesačnú absenciu. Väčšinu tréningu strávil s korčuliarskym trénerom.
Naposledy som bol na ľade 15. januára. Aj keď by bola možnosť reprezentovať Slovensko, máme veľa dobrých hráčov, ktorí celú dobu hrali. Nebolo by fér, ak by som ich vytlačil z nominácie. Samozrejme, bolo by iné, ak by som odohral pár zápasov v závere sezóny. Teraz potrebujem pár týždňov na to, aby som sa do toho dostal späť.

Do svojho zranenia stihol odohrať za Montreal 39 zápasov a nazbieral v nich 4 góly a 6 asistencií. Vo všeobecnosti sa vyjadril aj k stratenému zvyšku sezóny.
Najlepšie by bolo, ak by som odohral aj zvyšok sezóny a mal teraz na konte 80 zápasov. Dostal som sa do nejakého bodu, ale ďalšie veci som mal stále pred sebou a zastavil som sa uprostred cesty. Stratil som síce polovicu sezóny, to sa dá dobehnúť veľmi rýchlo.

V najbližšej dobe by sa chcel vrátiť aj na Slovensko a do Montrealu má v pláne sa vrátiť v lete.
Vrátim sa pripravený na 100 až 110 percent.

Ďalšia otázka smerovala na jeho zhodnotenie svojej premiérovej sezóny v NHL.
Mal som na seba vysoké nároky, preto som od seba očakával viac. Prišlo však zranenie a ja som sa snažil ho využiť na to, aby som sa dal do poriadku a zároveň na to, aby som bol pripravený na budúcu sezónu. Na druhú stranu som mal čas pozrieť si veľa videí s hrou Matthewsa alebo Tkachuka. Myslím si, že sú to skvelí hráči a môžem sa od nich veľa naučiť.
