Český obránce odešel z Evropy už v juniorském věku a nyní se po 14 letech vrací. Jeho kroky směřují do nejvyšší německé ligy.
Šustr začal svoji kariéru v zámoří už v 17 letech, když odešel do Spojených států. Důvodem brzkého odchodu byl fakt, že v rodné Plzni se nemohl tolik prosadit. První rok v zámoří strávil v NAHL, kde se mu ale vůbec nedařilo. Následující sezonu tak přešel do USHL, kde si v 50 zápasech připsal 19 bodů. Od sezony 2010/2011 hrál v univerzitním týmu organizace WCHA, kde vydržel 3 sezony.
Po zkušenostech v nižších soutěží chtěl vyzkoušet něco většího. A tak se po sezoně 2011/11 dohodl na dvouletém kontraktu v NHL, konkrétně s Tampou. Smlouva činila 1,85 milionů dolarů. Odehrál ale pouze 2 zápasy a následně byl poslán na farmu, kde se hned tentýž rok dostal do finále Calderova poháru. V sezoně 2013/14 se vrátil do původní sestavy Tampy, v polovině ledna byl však v jeho zájmu poslán zpět do AHL. O rok později se však vrátil zpět do hlavního týmu a už zde vydržel až do roku 2018.
V sezoně 2018/19 se Šustr stěhoval do Anaheimu, tady ale odehrál pouze 5 zápasů a zbytek strávil na farmě. Možná to bylo právě důvodem toho, proč se rozhodl odejít do KHL, kde odehrál 2 sezony. V KHL si však připsal za 99 zápasů pouhých 13 bodů, i přesto si ho ale na následující sezonu stáhla pod svá křídla opět Tampa. Po sezoně se však Andrej ocitl na listině volných hráčů, kde po něm znovu sáhl Anaheim.
Tady ale moc dlouho nevydržel, a po tom, co se znovu ocitl na listině volných hráčů po něm sáhla Minnesota. S ní podepsal roční dvoucestnou smlouvu na 750 tisíc dolarů. Ani tady se ale moc neohřál a celou sezonu strávil v AHL. Právě tady byl jeho plat 400 000 dolarů. Letos v březnu se znovu stal hráčem Ducks, ale stejně se do nejvyšší soutěže nepodíval. V červnu na Šustra, ale získaly práva Sharks, a tak se Šustr musel znovu stěhovat.
Nyní se po 14 letech vrací zpátky do Evropy. Konkrétně do Německa, kde bude oblékat červenobílý dres Německého Kolína.
