Tento pětadvacetiletý český obránce v létě vyzkoušel camp v Pittsburgu, tam ale neuspěl. Nyní se boj o NHL znovu aspoň krapet přiblížil. Během úterního odpoledne totiž podepsal aspoň na farmě. Na svém webu o tom informovaly Wilkes- Bare Penguins.
Odchovanec brněnské Komety odešel do zahraničí už v 17 letech, jeho první šance byla ve WHL. Roku 2016 však přišel na řadu draft, kdy si Hájka vybrala Tampa jako 35. celkově. Na farmě však odehrál pouhých 8 zápasů ve kterých získal 1 bod. Po nevydařeném vstupu se tak stěhoval zpátky k Saskatoon Blades. Zájem o něj však projevil New York.
Zde strávil pět sezon ve kterých pendloval mezi hlavním týmem a farmou. Na obránce si Hájek nevedl vůbec špatně a nic nenasvědčovalo tomu, že by ho Rangers nechtěli. Bylo proto velikým překvapením, když se po sezoně 2022/23 objevil na seznamu volných hráčů.
Na seznamu vydržel ale pouhé dva měsíce. Na letní camp si ho totiž přizval Pittsburgh, tam ale neuspěl, a tak jeho budoucnost byla nejistá. Hodně se mluvilo o tom, že by se Hájek mohl vrátit do Brna, to se již ale nestane. Roční smlouvu s ním totiž podepsala právě farma „Tučňáků“ a jeho boj o NHL tak stále nemusí být u konce.
O tom, že šanci na nejlepší ligu má není pochyb. Dostane šanci a zazáří i v hlavním týmu Pittsburghu? To se ještě neví, co je ale jisté, bude o to bojovat.
