Nie je to tak dávno čo švédska hviezda bola nútená ukončiť svoju kariéru. Aktuálne 43-ročný Johan Franzén utrpel počas svojich desiatich sezón v NHL viacero otrasov mozgu, ale posledný z nich prišiel 6. januára 2015, keď dostal úder do hlavy počas zápasu proti Edmontonu Oilers. Franzén v októbri 2015 odkorčuľoval dva zápasy, ale odvtedy sa v najlepšej hokejovej lige sveta nikdy nepredstavil.
Johan Franzén, hráč s vyše 700 odohranými zápasmi v NHL. Majstra sveta z roku 2006 a víťaza Stanley Cupu zo sezóny 2007/08 často sprevádzali ťažké zranenia, až sa po jednom už na ľad nikdy nevrátil.
Franzén bol nútený skončiť s hokejom a nasledujúce roky ho často sprevádzali, silné migrény, záchvaty paniky, strata pamäti, depresie a podobne. Intenzívna starostlivosť bola len malým zlomkom toho, čo Johana a jeho rodinu postihlo. Poškodenie mozgu, ktoré utrpel, ho bude sprevádzať do konca života.
Od zásahu, ktorý navždy zmenil život Johana Franzéna, uplynulo už 8 rokov. Zásah, ktorý ukončil mu kariéru, prišiel vďaka bývalému hráčovi Edmontonu Oilers Robovi Klinkhammerovi. Ten sa v NHL nikdy nejako výrazne nepresadil, ale o to trpkejšiu pilulku je potrebné prehltnúť, keď vieme, že sa to stalo kvôli lacnému zásahu od hráča, na ktorého si nikto nebude pamätať.
Toto nešťastie obletelo celý svet. V jednom z mála rozhovorov, Franzén opísal svoje pocity a boli naozaj veľmi srdcervúce.
Mohol by som sa s niekým rozprávať a na druhý deň by som na toho človeka zabudol. Môj mozog to neregistruje, je to také ťažké. Chápete ľudí, ktorí skončia so závislosťou, všetko je veľmi trápne. V súčasnosti som veľmi otvorený v tom, že si na veci nepamätám, a takmer hneď to ľuďom poviem. Ak je niekto, koho si nepamätám, aj keď sme sa možno rozprávali predtým, napríklad len deň predtým, som veľmi otvorený, že si nepamätám.
Priznal v rozpakoch Franzén.
Franzén nikdy neuviedol, že by trpel problémami s návykovými látkami, ale zrejme to naznačil, keď povedal, že vie „pochopiť“ myslenie človeka, ktorý sa stane závislým.
Azda najsmutnejšia časť rozhovoru však prišla, keď Franzén prezradil, že nechápe, ako môže jeho manželka Cecilia vydržať byť stále pri ňom, nechápal na tom to, ako môže byť stále jeho manželkou. Nevieme, čím si jeho rodina prešla za zatvorenými dverami, ale vieme, že sme všetci veľmi vďačný, že je jeho rodina stále nablízku, pretože kto vie, ako zle by to inak s Franzénom mohlo dopadnúť.
Hoci Franzen priznal, že sa mu veci veľmi rýchlo rozpadajú, stále má istú nádej, že sa to v budúcnosti môže zlepšiť.
Cítim, že to môže byť lepšie, ešte som to tak necítil. To je to, čo práve teraz cítim. Je veľmi ťažké byť v Detroite. Mám veľa veľmi zlých spomienok, ale mám tu samozrejme aj niektoré z mojich najlepších spomienok, ale posledné roky som sa cítil, akoby som tu už nechcel žiť, mal som toľko úzkosti, záchvatov paniky a depresie. Niekedy cestujem do hôr, len aby som sa dostal von a často mi stačí vidieť hory a prírodu, aby som sa cítil lepšie. Je veľmi ťažké byť tu a vymýšľať, čo robiť, snažím sa oklamať svoj mozog, aby niečo robil, ale funguje to len na krátky čas, kým sa to všetko znova rozpadne.“
Uviedol Franzén.
Kariéra švédskeho útočníka bola naozaj veľmi pozoruhodná a o to viac smutná ako sa skončila. Platnosť jeho kontraktu vypršala v sezóne 2019/20. Bohužiaľ od nešťastného zásahu nastúpil len do dvoch zápasoch a to v sezóne 2015/16.
