Jeden z najlepších útočníkov Tipos extraligy pôsobil posledné dva roky v drese Slovana Bratislava, avšak na novú sezónu si bude musieť hľadať nový klub.
Slovenský útočník mal v Slovane odohrať ešte jednu sezónu, kedže zmluva mu mala vypršať až budúce leto, nakoniec sa však s vedením dohodol na vzájomnom ukončení spolupráce.
„Dohodli sme sa z oboch strán na vzájomnom ukončení jeho zmluvy. Jeho misia sa týmto naplnila. Veľmi by sme mu chceli poďakovať za dva roky, počas ktorých odviedol pre Slovan kus práce. Verím, že bude pokračovať v niektorom z klubov v extralige alebo v zahraničí, zatiaľ nevieme kde,“

Do Slovana prišiel v novembri 2021 z českej Komety Brno po tom, čo mu pôsobenie v českej extralige nevyšlo ani na druhý pokus. Po návrate na slovenské klziská sa zaradil hneď medzi najlepších útočníkov v lige a začiatkom mája 2022 získal so Slovanom aj titul. Celkovo odohral za Slovan 95 zápasov so ziskom 105 kanadských bodov.
Marcel je bývalý reprezentant Slovenska, zahral si až na 5 majstrovstvách sveta a predstavil sa aj na olympiáde v roku 2018. Naposledy za reprezentáciu nastúpil v sezóne 2019/20.
Najväčší problém pri Marcelovi je to, že sa mimo Slovenska nevedel nikde výraznejšie presadiť. V Česku odohral spolu 4 sezóny, kde nepatril medzi elitu a podobne to dopadlo aj v KHL, kde pôsobil v sezónach 2013/14 a 2014/15.
Problémy presadiť sa mal aj v reprezentácií. Dokopy odohral na majstrovstvách sveta 31 zápasov, v ktorých strelil iba 1 gól a k tomu pridal 4 asistencie, čo sú biedne čísla, v porovnaní s výkonmi, ktoré podával na Slovensku.
Jeho budúcnosť je momentálne otázna, avšak vzhľadom na jeho vek, má už 36 rokov, a taktiež jeho problémom presadiť sa v kvalitnejších ligách, to skôr vyzerá na zotrvanie v extralige.
